New contender for world’s tallest tower

Feb14

Move over Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Tower, there’s a new contender for the next world’s tallest building in town.  Well, in Azerbaijan to be exact.

As we all know, Dubai’s very own Burj Khalifa currently holds the record for the world’s tallest building standing at an impressive 2,723 ft, but cities around the world are jockeying to claim this accolade for their own.  The proposed Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia looked all set to take over the throne with a 3,820 ft edifice but there’s now a new frontrunner for the title – the 3,444 ft Azerbaijan Tower, in the Republic of Azerbaijan in Eurasia.

Set to break ground in 2015, the estimated completion date is 2018 or 2019, and the cost?  A mere snip at $2bn.
